Happy Halloween!

We had some fun dressing up and gallivanting around the West End of town following the Shoestring Theater parade. They put on a fabulous parade with lots of amazing, huge, puppets, stilt walkers, drummer and various other noise making devices. They invite the public to join in and join in people do! We saw lots of creative costumes and people of all ages dancing in the street enjoying the crisp, clear night. Eliot had a great time clapping to the drums and trying to dance right out of his carrier.

We dressed up as Thing 1, 2 and 3 from Dr. Seuss fame. Good thing for union suits and quick thinking :)

cold beach weekend

we went to the beach yesterday and quite a cold picnic. the temperature has really dropped to feel like serious fall. it is nice to feel that crispness and to dig out and cozy up in nice warm sweaters. it makes me much more inclined to stay in and hunker down at the sewing machine.

i have a little sweater i am working on right now and i got some nice soft cotton to line a little jacket. hopefully soon there will be a post about those. for now, cold beach pictures:

urban wildlife

a beautiful sight narrated by a complete nutter. we were walking down town today and saw a lovely barred owl just hanging out and taking in the city in front of a local bookstore in the heart of downtown Portland. there was a crazy guy narrating the owl sightings to top it all off. not often you see an owl in the city..im sure the pigeons were not happy to see it.

Birthday Girl

Yesterday was my 30th birthday. I had a nice mellow time with Kevin and Eliot including the yummy carrot cake above. I have been thinking a lot about what turning 30 means to me and reflecting back on the last 10 years.

I have really come full circle in some ways since I was 20. It took a move clear across the country for me to realize Maine is where home is. Wearing lots of different hats including cheese maker, photographer, nanny, sales person...has provided me with many experiences to draw from. I don't think I will stop the learning I have been doing but I will do it knowing a lot more clearly who I am and how I tick. So many things have changed, especially at the dawn of my 30's, that I know I will never be able to completely know what is going to happen but I can direct it in a much more thoughtful way than I had been able to in the past.

I am delighted to see where my 30's will take me! I feel very blessed to be able to really be happy with my life the way it is right now and to only imagine how amazing it will be down the road. Here's to the next 10 years!

morning light

i was up at the usual 5:15 this morning and i was feeling a little sorry for myself that i was up before the sun. don't get me wrong, i love being with eliot in the morning, he is so loving and happy at that time, but its early! then, as if to talk back, the sun started to sneak up over the horizon and gave me a beautiful show while i was feeding eliot his breakfast. i had to interrupt him to get my camera and then i kept interrupting him to continue taking pictures. he was a little annoyed and at one point he got a hold of the applesauce bowl and dug right in. i suppose it is about time i let him experiment with a spoon on his own : ). after that i felt much more in tune with the day and glad that i was up so early after all.

we rounded out the afternoon with a much needed trip to the grocery store and some time at the park. it was absolutely the most perfect weather day outside with no humidity and about 72 degrees. perfect. i also got a lot of crafting done during nap time. i am almost done with my swap goodies. i am much more excited about them now that i have committed to an idea and they are taking shape. although, i have about 6 more ideas that have come along during the making of these, heh. i cant wait to show them off!

enjoy these pictures of the morning light! i didn't edit them at all and tried to get the color balance to be exactly like it looked...

blogger troubles

well..i was going to post a bunch of pictures of the tree peeping eliot, my mother and i did today but blogger is being particularly difficult at the moment and won't upload my pictures. especially annoying because i spent some extra time making them look really nice. ah well.. good practice : )

so anyway, we had a really nice day walking around yarmouth and looking at trees. eliot took my mother's phone with him and was talking to it the entire walk around. i think he is ready to be a teenager a little to early for my liking. we also, a little earlier in the day, went to a yardsale at our neighborhood elementary school and bought a couple of wooden toys for eliot. they seem to be harder to come by these days.

i also got about half of my sewing done on the craft blog swap thingy i am doing during nap time. it is a lot harder to make something for someone you don't know than i thought it would be. i don't want it to be too neutral in fear of being too boring but not too loud either.. oy.. her blog is fairly new but i think i'm on the right track. i'll be posting a very unrevealing sneak peek once blogger starts cooperating!

update: i was able to upload this morning so you will be able to see the lovely trees!

links i like

it has been busy around here as usual. i have a few crafty things going on and i just put my name in to do a craft fair at SPACE gallery...like i need to be more busy : ) i like the venue a lot and i think it would be a fun sale to do.

i thought, since i dont have a lot of pictures to share today, that i would post a few of the blogs i read regularly these days:

blackberry rambles
colorfool
design sponge
fashion incubator
impulse

there are more and i will share them later, on a day when i lack good content : )

remembering

I was going through pictures and reminiscing about Eliot when he was really tiny. It is hard to believe he is walking and trying to talk when he was so little not that long ago. They really do grow fast.

I miss that sweater too...it shrunk in the wash.. it is now a hat and pair of mittens : )

fall day at the beach

It was a windy cool day on Sunday when we took a walk on the beach. Eliot had fun walking as fast as his little legs could go, strait to the water. I think he will be surfing before we know it! I am working on a few things for a swap I am doing through another blog. It's supposed to be 3 fall related things, one of which must be hand made. I have a few ideas kicking around, maybe I will post some sneak peeks so that I don't give away the surprise : )

updates

just updated the website. i need to spruce up this blog a bit too i think, fix up the side bar and put in a new header. a little housekeeping is in order. hopefully kevin and i will be going out on a date this weekend. we havent gone out in a while..its due i think.
here is another picture of me as a wee babe. I see the similarities between me and eliot but kevin doesn't. he is biased : ) I like that old carriage, i wouldn't minded one of those when he was still immobile.

and the fabric closet that needs to be thinned. hopefully by lots of baby presents in the works.

living room cowboy

Eliot slept all night last night! All night until 5, but hey, better than getting up 3 times! He was really cheerful and went right for the rocking horse. It is nice for me when he can be a little more independent. He was totally obsessed with a box of dental floss this morning, hopefully it bodes well for good future dental health. He carried it around with him for hours this morning. Figuring out how to maneuver onto the horse with one hand was no easy feat I tell you. And yes, I dressed my Son in pink pajamas : )

I have started working on Spring designs for A Little Bunny. I have a lot of things on my To Do list in relation to that. I am looking for a couple of more baby boutique stores to market to if anyone has any ideas. I have few but it can't hurt to get suggestions! I think if I have 3 shops I will be busy but not overwhelmed...just where I would like to be.

birthday boy

It has been a while since I last posted but we have been very busy! My little guy turned 1 year old on Monday. We had a birthday party on Saturday that was a lot of fun. I think I was more overwhelmed than Eliot. I can't believe he is one already. I have so many gushy sentimental things to say but I think the are probably more suited to the baby book.

He had a lovely time at the party. We made breakfast burritos and scones and he had a good time eating those things off of every ones plates. He made his rounds, making sure to smile at everyone who came and to clap his hands and dance on cue. He played nicely with the other babies and shared his new toys very well.

These are from last week during my crunch time for the Ms. Lulu's order. Assembly line of onsies and doing lots of trimming.

I am going to try to post every day this week. I think it is a good goal. I have been a little forgetful this past week and a half. My work schedule is changing a bit and I have a new set of goals that I should talk about to spur my procrastinating self on. So, I will see you soon.

a big sigh

A Little Bunny is now at Ms. Lulu's in Portland, Maine! Yay! I was able to finish up everything today during Eliot's nice long nap and deliver the goods to the shop this afternoon. it took me longer than I expected with a few minor bumps in the road. I now have a much better idea of what to do for the next time around. This has been a fabulous learning experience, all part of my 'liberal arts education'. The process has lead to a lot of ideas that I hope come to fruition at some point in the future. Off to the drawing board...

In Eliot news.. I am now able to properly plan for his birthday brunch. (Heather E and Heather T if you are reading this you are invited, Saturday morning at 10ish if Kevin hasn't called you..I don't have your emails and my other Heather too if you were a little closer by!)
I think we are going to a breakfast buffet including make your own breakfast burrito. I haven't decided what to do for a baby friendly cake but I'm sure I will come up with something. First priority is to scrape off the 3 weeks worth of grime, laundry and general disarray that has accumulated since I started working on the baby clothes. Thank goodness for Mrs. Meyers.

This is me as my other self..the fly swatting ninja:
